Cabo
Pulmo is located on the Sea of Cortez on the southern Baja Peninsula. Its
location features miles of white sand beaches and one of the few living
coral reefs in western North America.
The waters off these beaches are so outstanding they have been
designated a National Marine Park. Several local restaurants offer a variety of dining from traditional Mexican at Tito’s and El Caballero, fresh seafood at Juan’s Palapa on the beach, the varied menu of the Coral Reef, to more formal dining under the stars at Nancy’s. There is a small grocery store stocking most staples and a good variety of fresh vegetables and fruit. To supplement what is available at the store, small delivery trucks bring fresh bakery and grocery items to the village during the week. Check with the property managers on arrival for the current schedule. Even though you are definitely “out in the
country” a 4-wheel drive is not necessary.
In fact, many people park their rental vehicles for the duration,
walking to local activities. There
is no gas available in Cabo Pulmo. The
nearest gasoline station is in La Ribera on the way into Cabo Pulmo. Many activities are available within the local area.
The protected, warm waters behind the reef offer excellent swimming
and snorkeling. Outstanding
scuba destinations are easily reached from Cabo Pulmo.
A series of coral fingers radiating out from the beach are home to
hundreds of different species of colorful tropical fish.
Choose your depth, from waist deep snorkeling to deep-water diving.
Equipment and guided services for both activities are available at
three local dive shops. |

| Year around deep-sea fishing is available.
Catches are higher during the warmer weather months, but typically
yellow fin tuna and bottom fish are available year around.
The area is in the middle of world-class roosterfish fishing with
some exceeding 60 pounds. Local
fishing guides with good equipment will take you out for tuna, dorado,
wahoo, roosterfish and a variety of bottom fishes.
Marlin trips can also be arranged. Outstanding kayaking destinations to view sea lions
or picnic on nearby, secluded beaches are easily reached from the beaches
at Cabo Pulmo. Kayaks can be
rented locally for both unguided and guided trips.
When conditions are right, windsurfing is possible directly from
the beaches at Cabo Pulmo and a surfing beach is available 20 miles south. From your door at CASA LOS PAJAROS you can walk to
hiking trails into the local hills, Cave Mountain and around Pulmo
Mountain. Photographic and bird watching opportunities are endless. |

If
you plan to purchase groceries before arriving in Cabo Pulmo we suggest
shopping at one of the large supermarket on the northern outskirts of San
Jose. Ask for precise directions before leaving the car rental agency.
A more limited grocery selection is available in La Ribera and Cabo
Pulmo. |
